04 What's needed
What type of stairlift?
Which one of these best resembles your stairs?
Is there a door or open hallway at the bottom of your stairs?
Numbers only
Numbers only. A landing is a flat area between flights of stairs.

Why we ask: if the lift's rail would run across a doorway or an open hallway, a folding rail end may be needed so the door can open and people can walk past. If a wall continues beyond the stairs at the landing, a folding rail is almost never needed.

✕ Fixed rail: blocks a door opening or intrudes into a hallway, causing a tripping hazard
The rail runs down the stairs into the space where the door swings open or people walk.
✓ Folding rail: door opens freely
The end of the rail folds straight up toward the ceiling, out of the door's way (like the Harmar SL300FR).

A couple of quick measurements for the person who'll be using the lift — this helps us fit the right seat and motor.
